WILD HORSES RUN FASTER

Advice / Saturday, March 3rd, 2018

You hold me down in the best way
No quarter from these chains that I’ve
Slapped on my heart for a feeling
Why can’t I let my demons lie?

Have you ever tried to live a day without using the world “should”? It’s not as easy as I would have it think. So many days of my life are filled with:

should go to bed early.

should not use my phone so much.

should exercise more.

should be more productive.

should be afraid.

should give up.

should give in.

Keep screaming into the pillow
’Cause your taste still gets me stupid high
Oh glory, I’m a believer
Oh glory, I’m a trier

Imagine the possibilities that you open yourself up to if you don’t use the word should. What would you do if:

want to go to bed early.

want to not use my phone so much.

will exercise more.

can be more productive

love to be afraid.

won’t give up.

can’t give in.

Wild horses, wild horses
Wild horses run faster, run faster, run faster!
Wild horses run faster, run faster, run faster!

If you’ve been suppressing your urge to be creative, to be bold, to be wild, now is the time to try looking up. Looking around. Raise your arms in the air. It’s time to change. It’s time to do. It’s time to achieve.

You call my truth in the worst way
Through the dirty lands of a broken smile
And I swear I’m not a pretender
Sometimes it’s love who’s the biggest liar

I’ve been thinking a lot about this term “progressive loading” lately. It was introduced to me by Sam Faulhaber and I just love it. It is the thought that you don’t have to do things all at once. Like a muscle, you get stronger over time by putting yourself through the stress that you can handle in the moment. Day by day, you improve through consistent work.

I have muscles. Lots of them. But they aren’t as well loaded as I have allowed them to be. I feel unbalanced a lot of days; I feel like I’m being pushed in different directions. My left arm hurts more than my right. And in my brain, I don’t know how to say no. I don’t know how to rest. I don’t know what I want to do with my life.

Progressive loading. Small changes. Small rotations. Small steps.

So, I’ll keep on damning the devil
And you’ll keep on saying it’s alright
Oh glory, I’m a believer
Oh Lord, I’m holding tight, but

Wild horses, wild horses
Wild horses run faster, run faster, run faster!
Wild horses run faster, run faster, run faster!

So, I’ll keep on damning the devil
And you’ll keep on saying it’s alright
Oh glory, I’m a believer
Oh Lord, I’m holding tight, but

Wild horses, wild horses

Wild horses run faster, run faster, run faster!
Wild horses run faster, run faster, run faster!
Wild horses run faster, run faster, run faster!
